About Team Fantasy Sports

Dedicated to the man, the myth, the legend known as my Dad Thomas M. Connor

The Team Drafting Game

Team Fantasy Sports is dedicated to Thomas M. Connor, and our Team Drafting game is played the exact same way me and him used to pick teams from the newspaper back and forth every Sunday morning. No point spreads, no individuals, no complicated scoring, your team wins then you win, that's it, simply pick winning teams. When I think back to when I truly loved the sport of football, I would say it would have to be from the mid 80's to late 90s picking those teams with my dad. Way before I ever started playing fantasy football.

Note: While Team Fantasy Sports offers 6 different contest types, it's specifically our Team Drafting game that honors this tradition of team-based picking.

In a lot of ways the regular way that fantasy football was and is played today ruined football for me. I remember when people used to cheer for their favorite teams, not the individuals that are celebrated today. I think the straw that broke the camel's back was going to my local watering hole and watching guys celebrate and cheer for both teams that were currently playing each other because they had individuals on their fantasy team from both teams. Something didn't feel right in the universe.

Fast forward to a couple years ago. I'm in like 4 fantasy football leagues, each one feeling more like an obligation than the fun it should have been. Now I am a busy man, and every week I was fighting for time to check rosters, injuries, latest updates, statistics, etc. I found myself spending more time checking the success of other men's stats than going and hanging out with my own kids, and my significant other. I was ashamed of that fact, what was I doing with my time, oh then covid happened, I can't tell you the number of times I would get called right after kick off to be razzed by my opponent that I left 3 guys in that had covid yeah 0 points for me again. I could not keep up. Fantasy football became a nightmare far from an enjoyable fantasy it was meant to be, even when I won.

So in an effort to bring the joy back to the game of football for myself I presented a new game to some of the guys in our fantasy football league, the game my father and I used to play every week on Sunday. Let's draft TEAMS, instead of players, I said. What do you mean? was the reply I got. We will do a draft and pick teams instead of players. The person with best combined record from the teams they chose wins. Basically most wins win! And we will keep track all year. No more of my time being occupied with checking rosters, injuries, latest updates, statistics, etc. Now I can cheer on teams again making it fun for the whole family. Everything seemed right again in the universe.

We kept track all year long old school style on a piece of paper. The whole football season and also did it for NBA. We all loved it. And this is when I came up with the idea to keep track on a shared google sheet, then that turned into let's keep track of the stats on a website, and which now has evolved into the actual real website/app that you can play today with weekly and season long contests. Simple, Easy, Fast just pick teams that you think will win.

A Father's Legacy

My father passed away more than 20+ years now and I never got to tell him how important he was to me. He was my step dad, but I can honestly say no one in my life ever cared and took care of me and tried to put me on the right path more than this man. He never had to do the things he did for me and he went above and beyond and much of the reason I went from living out of my car to where I am today was from things he taught me and I never been able to thank him for that. So I hope everybody can enjoy the game that I used to play with him every Sunday that brought us so much fun. Enjoy responsibly.
